Muck Boots Assessed a 53% SIMA Duty by the Canadian Borders Services Agency
ALL CONTAINERS OF MUCK BOOTS ORDERED FOR CANADA (Fall 2009) HAVE BEEN OFFICIALLY CANCELLED.
Muck Boots have been assessed a 53% SIMA (Special Import Measures Act) Duty by the CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency). This duty is intended to protect Canadian Manufacturers from cheap rubber footwear being “dumped” into Canada. It is the distributor’s understanding that Muck Boots were assigned this added duty as they have been included under an “umbrella” of importers, based on the quantity imported.
We do not believe Muck Boots should fall into the “dumping” category, as they are a high quality product sold at a fair price with no competition from Canadian Manufacturers. If you have owned a pair of Muck Boots, you know what a great product they are. To make a difference, and ensure Muck Boots are still available to Canadian consumers, please fax a letter of support to us at 250-392-7220 and we will pass it along to the Canadian Distributor.
The Canadian Distributor has been informed that no product will be ordered for Canada until after the September ruling by the CITT. This will make Muck Boots unavailable until December, at the earliest.
